The Caledonian Society, Awali are to host
their traditional Burns Supper on Friday 22nd January
2010 at 7.30pm at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Manama, Bahrain.
This annual event to celebrate the birth (251
years ago on January 25th), life and poetry of the
Scottish Poet Robert Burns will take the form of a formal dinner
which will include the serving of the Scottish National dish of
Haggis, neeps and tatties!
In addition there will be speeches, poetry
recitation (including the legendary and dramatic address to the
Haggis!), music, as well as community singing of Burns and
Scottish songs throughout the evening.
The Toast to the “Immortal memory of Robert
Burns” will be proposed by Lord Jim Wallace of Tankerness. Baron
Wallace became a life peer in the House of Lords in 2007. He was
formerly Leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats, Member of
Parliament for Orkney and Shetland, Member of the Scottish
Parliament for Orkney and the first Deputy First Minister of
Scotland in the Scottish Executive.
Accompanying Lord Wallace on his first trip
to Bahrain will be Lady Rosie Wallace who will be replying to
the “Toast to the lassies”, which will be proposed by Mr Ron
Peters, General Manager of Gulf Brands International.
Music will be provided by well known local
Band Celtic Rumours.
The purchase and transportation of the Haggis
from Scotland is generously sponsored by Aggreko and Beverages
sponsored by Gulf Brands International. All profits and proceeds
from the evening will be donated to local and Scottish
charities.
The evening dress code is National Dress or
Black tie and all are very welcome to join the Awali Caledonian
Society’s Burns celebrations.
